Proper packing is a must when preparing for your move; start well ahead of time in order to make sure you are ready for your professional movers to start loading.
Each lamp shade should be placed in a separate box, wrapped in clean white paper. Make certain that you do NOT use newspaper to wrap the lamp shade as this will leave permanent marks on the shade. Check to make sure that the inside of the box is clean to prevent the lamp shade from becoming dirty.
It is always best to wrap electronic items such as stereo systems with bubble wrap, blankets or packing paper and then placed in boxes. If possible, always save the original box that the electronic goods were packed in as the original styrofoam packing will always work best.
With the recent growth in the popularity of flat panel televisions that can be wall mounted, special care must be taken when moving these fragile items. In particular plasma TV’s do not travel well when moved; indeed, many moving companies refuse to even handle plasma TV’s because they are so easily damaged. Therefore, we highly recommend that you move a plasma TV in your own vehicle; if that is not possible then we recommend a custom built crate be ordered. Although this may seem expensive at $300-$500 per crate, consider your initial investment of several thousands dollars or more. If you do have a crate custom built, please make sure to store it for future use.
Suitcases should be used to hold special items as you can easily identify these among the clutter of moving day. Don’t put CD’s that are easily shattered or heavy books into suitcases.
