West Virginia is a state located in the Appalachia/Upland South area of the United States; it seceded from the state of Virginia during the Civil War on June 23, 1863. This date is still celebrated as West Virginia Day to show pride in their differences from the state of Virginia. During the Civil War, West Virginia furnished about the same number of troops, between 20,000 to 22,000, to both the Federal and Confederate governments.

It was a doomsday bunker which actually resembled the bunker seen in the highly regarded film Dr. Strangelove starring the great Peter Sellers in which he played three different roles.
