A manufactured home moving through Mississippi travels under an over-dimensional single-trip permit from the MDOT Permit Section. It's the standard oversize permit for moving a home on state highways.

Mississippi requires an oversize permit for any load wider than 8 feet 6 inches (102 inches). A manufactured home is almost always wider than that, so a permit is required for essentially every move.

Mississippi requires one escort for a home over 12 feet 11 inches wide, and two escorts over 16 feet. A home over 10 feet wide moving at night also needs an escort. Loads over 99 feet long require front and rear escorts, and very wide loads — around 20 feet and up — call for a police escort.

Most of Mississippi is HUD Wind Zone I. Six Gulf-Coast counties are Wind Zone II, built for stronger coastal winds. A Zone I-rated home built after July 13, 1994 can't be installed in one of the Zone II counties. There's no state seismic requirement.

A manufactured home in Mississippi is installed by a licensed installer under the State Fire Marshal's Factory-Built Home Division. Once the home passes inspection, it gets a serial-numbered installation decal and a Fire Marshal inspection decal. Homes built after 1976 must carry their HUD label, and anchoring follows the federal standard.

Mississippi has no statewide ban on moving pre-1976 homes — an older home can be installed once it passes inspection and gets its decal. Some counties may have their own local restrictions, so placement can still depend on where the home is going.

The transport permit belongs to the mover. MDOT issues it to the hauler, who must also be licensed by the state's Factory-Built Home Division. As a concierge move, the licensed carrier holds the permit for you.
