A manufactured home moving through West Virginia travels under a single-trip mobile home permit (valid 10 days) or a blanket permit, issued by the WV Division of Highways Central Permit Office.

West Virginia requires a permit for anything wider than 8 feet 6 inches. A blanket manufactured-home permit covers homes up to 14 feet wide, and homes wider than 16 feet aren't allowed to move at all.

West Virginia's escort rules start early. On a two-lane road, a home 10 feet 6 inches to 12 feet wide needs one front escort, and 12 to 14 feet needs a front and a rear. On a four-lane road, 12 to 14 feet needs one rear escort. Homes over 14 to 16 feet wide have restricted travel days.

A manufactured home in West Virginia is installed by a licensed contractor or installer, overseen by the Manufactured Housing Construction & Safety Board under the Division of Labor. New homes are set to the federal standard, used homes per the applicable code. Homes built after 1976 need their HUD label.

The transport permit belongs to the mover — the Division of Highways permit goes to the carrier, and transport is regulated separately from installer licensing. As a concierge move, the licensed carrier holds the permit for you.
